Pray for Bishop T.D. Jakes: A Moment of Faith and Family

Sisters, we need to talk about something that happened today at The Potter’s House in Dallas. During the Sunday service, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a health scare right there in the middle of his sermon! Now, let me tell you, when I first heard about it, my heart dropped. I mean, Bishop Jakes is like the OG of preaching fire and truth. Can you imagine the room? One moment, he’s delivering a word, and the next, people are probably gasping and looking at each other like, “What’s going on?”

But here’s the part that makes me smile through the concern his congregation didn’t waste a second. They didn’t panic or scatter; they went straight into prayer. Can we give them a hand clap for that? 🙌 These folks immediately lifted their leader up in prayer. That’s the kind of church I want to be part of a body of believers that stands firm in faith, ready to fight in the Spirit when the enemy tries to come in like a flood (Isaiah 59:19).

Reports say Bishop Jakes is stable and surrounded by his family. You know his wife, First Lady Serita Jakes, and their kids are probably holding him down right now. I can imagine her being like, “You’re not going anywhere, honey we’ve got too much kingdom work to do!” And I’m sure his family is doing what families do best in these moments: praying, supporting, and maybe sneaking him a little extra soup to keep his strength up.

Now, let’s keep it real. Bishop Jakes is no stranger to working hard. The man is everywhere preaching, writing, mentoring, building up communities, and probably taking only two hours of sleep a night. Y’all, even Moses needed to sit down and let Aaron hold up his arms (Exodus 17:12). Maybe this is God saying, “Bishop, it’s time for some rest.” And if God has to sit you down, you’d better believe He’ll do it.

This is a reminder for all of us, too. Sometimes we think we’re invincible—running on fumes, pouring out into everyone else, and forgetting to refill our own cups. But even leaders, even giants of the faith, need a moment to rest and lean on the people around them.

So, here’s my challenge to you: Let’s pray for Bishop Jakes, his family, and The Potter’s House congregation. Pray for healing, strength, and wisdom as he recovers. Pray for the doctors and everyone taking care of him. And maybe, just maybe, let’s also pray that he takes a little vacation after this because, Bishop, we love you, but we need you to slow down just a bit!

Let’s keep the faith, y’all. If there’s one thing Bishop Jakes has taught us, it’s to trust God no matter what the circumstances look like. God’s got him, just like He’s got you and me. Let’s lift him up in prayer and trust that he’ll be back in the pulpit soon, delivering another life changing word.

Stay prayed up, sisters. Let’s be the kind of believers who don’t just watch things happen but move heaven with our prayers. And while we’re at it, let’s remember to rest in Him, too. We’ve got kingdom work to do, but we can’t pour from an empty cup. Let’s learn from this moment and stay ready to be vessels of His glory.
